Costa Rica’s FIFA World Cup team 2014 qualifying Campaign

Costa Rica’s 2014 world cup qualifying campaign started in June with a draw against El Salvador. They then met Guyana, which they beat 4 nil. The Ticos’ suffered a major blow in their campaign when they were beaten home and away by their perennial rivals Mexico in September, putting them just a loss away from elimination. However, a 1-0 win over El Salvador on October 12 renewed their hope of qualification. They finally clinched a final round slot with a 7-0 thumping of Guyana on September 16.

They began the fourth round with a 2-2 draw against Panama and followed it with a 1-0 loss against the US in Denver Colorado. Costa Rica regained momentum winning against Jamaica 2-0. They then beat Honduras 1-0 in June and drew with Mexico, and won 2-0 against Panama. In September, the Ticos beat the US 3-0 at the Estadio Nacional in San Jose. They then shared the spoils with Jamaica on September 10.

bryan-ruiz-world-cupDespite a bumpy campaign, the team was able to qualify for the 2014 world cup with two games to spare, finishing second in the CONCACAF qualifying table behind the US. The team is captained by Bryan Ruiz, and their Head coach is called Jorge Luis Pinto. The most capped player in the squad is Walter Centeno, and their top scorer is Rolando Fonseca. The home stadium is known as Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica.

The team traditionally wears blue shorts, red jerseys and red socks. It used to wear the Juventus-style Black and white striped jerseys with blue shorts and red socks for its away games; which are colors of the oldest club in Costa Rica called CS La Libertad. The stripped kit was, however, replaced by a white jersey with blue shorts.

Current squad of Costa Rica’s FIFA World Cup team

Costa-Rica-World-Cup-OddsA total of 22 players were selected for the international friendly match against Paraguay on March 5, 2014. Many other players have since been called to beef-up the squad.

Costa Rica team is a long shot to win the World Cup. They are far from one of the best bets in the tournament, but you might be able to pick your spots with this team.

They proved themselves getting into the World Cup, and they could be good for a win or a draw with great odds against one of the better teams in group D. There will be a lot of money bet on England, so the odds might make it worth placing a bet on Costa Rica when they meet. We’ll see what odds and bets Las Vegas list when these teams meet.

Honduras’s FIFA World Cup team

honduras-world-cup-bettingSoccer fans worldwide are waiting with bated breath for the FIFA World Cup 2014 that is just around the corner. All set to unfold from June 12 to July 13 in Brazil, this global soccer tournament that occurs once in 4 years is followed religiously by millions who have countless hopes pinned with each of the teams that they support. While Latin American and European countries usually manage to bring the cups home, among the most promising countries that is emerging as a popular favorite among bookies as well as the common viewers for achieving victory in this year’s FIFA World Cup is Honduras. This country is currently gripped feverishly by the FIFA World Cup mania and the sport is no less than a religion wherein every child plays soccer and aspires to play at the international level. Many world-cup-odds-las-vegaspeople around the world assume that the main source of revenue for an exotic and exciting country like Honduras must be through tourism but it is actually soccer that brings in the majority of the money. For the Brazil FIFA World Cup 2014 season, there are major hopes from the Honduras’s soccer team which has boasted of well-known alumni players such as Amado Guevara, Carlos Pavón and Danny Turcios. As far as major wins in the FIFA World Cup are concerned, the country displayed its most spectacular performances in the FIFA World Cup Spain 1982 season and the South Africa 2010 season during the group stages.

A little history about the historic performances of this country

Honduras-fubol-betsHonduras has always been one to give exceptional performances and during the FIFA World Cup Spain 1982 season, when the country retuned back to playing the tournament after a whole 3 decades, it faced stiff competition from South Africa. The Honduran team opened the tournament with a score of 1-0 loss to Chile and thereafter had to bear the brunt of tournament top-scorer David Villa who managed to grab both the goals in Spain’s 2-0 win. In the country’s second and only other FIFA World Cup appearance, Jose de La Paz took on the task of coaching the team and made the Honduras play towards obtaining an opening 1-1 draw with Spain, the host country of the 1982 tournament. It was the same score again when the match was played out against Northern Ireland. However, unfortunately for the dedicated Honduran team, their campaign was short lived as it got done at the group stage following Yugoslavia’s 1-0 win over Los Catrachos owing to a late goal.

Current scenario of the Hondurans

bet-the-world-cup-in-las-vegasHeaded by Coach Luis Fernando Suarez, the Honduran team is hoping to create history in Brazil this year. With its battery of talented soccer gems such as Left-back Emilio Izaguirre who played incredibly well in the Scottish Premier League Player of the Year in the 2010/2011 season of the tournament. Carlo Costly is another player to watch out for and up and coming star players such as Jerry Bengtson who showed impressive sporting skills in various international tournaments are keeping Hondurans on their toes about the hopeful victory of the country.

Odds for Group E Winner

Team Odds
France -125
Switzerland +250
Ecuador +350
Honduras +3300

As you can see, Honduras has long odds to win the group. France is the clear cut favorite at -125. The second favorite in the group, and the other team most likely to advance is Switzerland. Ecuador also boasts a very good team… All this means that it will be very difficult for Honduras to make it past the group stage. This is why their odds are +3300.

History of Chile’s FIFA World Cup

chile-world-cup-oddsEven though there is an actual record of the results of the Chilean national football team at the FIFA world cup online, there are still a few things to be mentioned. This team is one that has had a long and storied history as one of the top football teams operating in Latin America. With fans all over the planet, few teams can compare in scope and skill with the Chilean national football team.

The Federación de Fútbol de Chile is the second oldest South American football federation with an astonishing 112 years of existence thus far. It was founded back in June 19, 1895 at the port city of Valparaiso and its first President was Mr. David Scott. Chile was one of four founding member nations of CONMEBOL along with Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay who altogether established the South American footballing organization on July 9, 1916. Those four original associations enacted and participated in the first ever South American Championship which would later be named the Copa America. This historic event would set the stage for a revolution in South American football that would be felt for generations of people to come.

chilean-girl-world-cup-2014The national team has actually made it to the first round of the FIFA world cup quite a few times. In 1930 in Uruguay, in 1950 in Brazil, in 1966 in England, in 1974 in Germany and in 1982 in Spain. A string of victories such as this has led to an intense respect and admiration for the Chilean national football team.

Other than that the team has also withdrew out of the 1934 and 1938 tournaments which were held in Italy and France accordingly and has not qualified for several others including the 1954 cup in Switzerland, the 1958 cup in Sweden, the 1970 cup in Mexico, the 1978 cup in Argentina, the 1990 cup in Italy, the 2002 cup in Korea/Japan and the 2006 cup in Germany.

It has made it to the rounds of 16 in the years 1998 in France and 2010 in South Africa though and its most successful run-up was when it actually got third place in the 1962 cup which was held in Chile itself.

The team has also been banned from the 1994 cup in the U.S. which was due to the fact that Roberto Antonio “Cóndor” Rojas Saavedra (born August 8, 1957, in Santiago) who is now a retired Chilean Football goalkeeper, deliberately injured himself back in 1989 on the field in an attempt to avoid a loss by the Chilean national team. The incident also resulted in a lifetime ban for Rojas along with the World Cup ban for the national team of Chile.

chile-2014-fifa-world-cup-betsNow the national team of Chile is preparing for 2014 since it qualified for the cup and we have to only wait and see how the team will do this in this cup! Many fans are titillated by the prospects of a Chilean victory and believe that 2014 could be a major year for the Chilean national football team.

Nigerian FIFA World Cup team

best world cup betsIf you’re looking for a good bet on the 2014 World Cup, Nigeria might be of interest. They’re in Group F, up against Argentina, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iran. While Nigeria is the 3rd favorite to win the group, if Argentina doesn’t win, it’s really a coin toss between the Nigerian team and Bosnia. Iran has no chance.

That said, if you don’t like Argentina to win the group, I would throw my money on Nigeria. They have longer odds than Bosnia, and they are just as good. They could make for one the best world cup best available.

These are the odds for the winner of Group F.

Team Odds
Argentina -400
Bosnia-Herzegovina +600
Nigeria +800
Iran +3300

nigeria betting oddsThe FIFA World Cup tournament is a worldwide celebration of soccer which millions across the globe await eagerly for. Scheduled to be held from June 12 to July 13 this year, the most famous soccer tournament will be hosted by Brazil this year which has made some heavy duty, grand preparations to welcome various soccer teams around the world. While countries such as Spain, Brazil and Argentina are renowned for achieving meteoric success and worldwide support in this tournament, the teams of other countries have also been making steady progress in the show of their sporting skills over the years. While people literally had expectations from 3rd world countries such as Nigeria, such nations have actually proved their mettle and are well on their way to join the rankings of the top winning countries of the world.  The Nigerian FIFA World Cup team is all set to battle it out with other nations and how!

A little background about the unique story of progress of this country

nigeria world cup betsSince Nigeria is an under developed nation, it joined the FIFA World Cup bandwagon rather late in the day and its steady climb towards success has thus been all the more surprising as they managed to do quite well despite not having access to basic amenities and sports tools required for soccer players to practice with. The Nigerian FIFA World Cup team made an impressive debut in the 1994 edition of the tournament and followed it up with an equally thrilling performance in the following 1998 season. However their game has been a bit dicey as well since then, they have been eliminated at the group stage three times and managed to achieve a mere two points during their last eight matches in the finals. In the most recent season of the FIFA World Cup that was held in 2010 in South Africa a vague campaign under Lars Lagerback was expected to help give a boost to Nigeria’s soccer reputation which unfortunately didn’t happen and thus, all hopes are now pinned on the Brazil 2014 season to make the reigning African champions make their mark as excellent soccer players. Some of the best Nigerian soccer players to have done well in the FIFA World Cup have been Jay Jay OkochaNwankwo Kanu and Rashidi Yekini. The country’s best FIFA performances have been in the FIFA World Cup USA 1994, France 1998 (Round of 16), FIFA China Under 17 World Cup 1985, Japan 1993, Korea Republic 2007, Olympic Football Tournament Atlanta 1996 (Winners), FIFA Saudi Arabia Under 20 World Cup 1989 and Netherlands 2005 (Runners-up).

The current scenario

FBL-AFR-2013-MLI-NGA-MATCH29The Nigerian FIFA World Cup team was drawn in Group F along with Malawi, Kenya and Namibia wherein they emerged as the common favorites to reach the final play-off round of qualifying. The team is headed by Coach Stephen Keshi, who managed to get them to win the 2013 edition of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations.

The 2014 Greece FIFA World Cup Team

After their spectacular success at the 2004 FIFA World Cup, expectation for this year’s team is certainly high among their fans, although they may be underestimated by others who might be in danger of overlooking them once again. Although the combination of talent, determination and favorable matchups may not be in Greece’s favor like it was in 2004, this team is still one to be reckoned with as it advances into the 2014 World Cup.

Who are the 2014 Greece FIFA Team?

greece-world-cup-oddsThe team itself has been around for many decades, but didn’t really make a dent into the World Cup scene until 1994. Wearing the sky-blue and white colors of their nation, the Greeks are known in their media as “Ethniki” which translates into “National”. However, an unofficial nickname refers to the Greek team as “Pirates” which came about after Georgios Helakis, a Greek sports radio journalist commented on the Portuguese use of their 16th century ships as their symbol, that the Greeks would be the pirates to their fleet. The subsequent success lead to the unofficial name of Piratiko or The Pirate Ship as the new nickname which is now repeated after every victory.

How Greece Qualified for the World Cup?

greek-world-cup-betsThe Greek team managed to perform quite well during the qualifying rounds, putting up a total of 25 points from the 10 games that they played. The 25 points would have made them winners in five of the eight groups that participated, but in their group they had to participate in a playoff after losing to Bosnia-Herzegovina on goal difference.

However, the Greeks were not steamrollers in the qualifying rounds having won five of their eight games by mere 1 – 0 victories. The winner of their group managed a scoreless draw with Greece and then defeat them 3 – 1 at Zenica.

In the playoffs, the Greeks under Fernando Santos managed to beat the Romanians who had tied them during the regular qualifying rounds 3 – 1 at home and then managed a 1 – 1 draw in Bucharest which was more than enough to see them into the Word Cup play. In fact, three of the four goals in the playoffs were made by their leading striker Konstantinos Mitroglou who is the most dangerous scorer on the current Greek team.

The Greeks are certainly a strong team and one that can compete on relatively even terms with most of the teams at the Cup.

The History of the Greek Team in the FIFA World Cup

greece_euro_championsSave for the 2004 World Cup, the overall history of the Greeks has been rather modest to say the least. In 1994, the Greek team went home with no points and worse, no goals from their efforts in the United States after losing to Argentina, Bulgaria and Nigeria respectively. In the previous World Cup in South Africa, the Greeks managed to beat Nigeria 2 – 1, but were handed two consecutive defeats by the Korean Republic and Argentina which meant that they left for home after the initial group rounds.

Of course, their 2004 World Cup Championship in Portugal stands as their triumphant moment when the world was shocked at this rather modest team which was given little chance to succeed. In fact, the booking odds ranged from 80 to 1 up to 150 to 1 that they would become champions. The Greeks managed to make it past the initial qualifying round and stun the defending champs France before meeting Portugal in the finals and beating them as well.

The Current Team

The team is currently coached by the renowned Fernando Santos who hails from Portugal as he took over the team from Otto Rehhagel who had guided the Greeks in the last World Cup endeavor in 2010 after a nine-year run. Santos managed to get the Greek team into the quarter finals of EURO 2012 where they lost to Germany, but put in a very respectable showing. His handling of the team through the 2014 World Cup qualifiers was certainly impressive.

Giorgos-Karagounis-World-CupThe key players on the team are built around a philosophy of attack and creating scoring opportunities. The Captain Giorgos Karagounis is still the most dominant player on the Greek team and as a seasoned midfielder commands a real presence on the field. His play will be central to the success of the Greeks as they compete at the World Cup.

Forwards Dimitrios Salpingidis and Mitroglou will also play a powerful role in the Greeks chances of keeping up the pressure and creating scoring opportunities. The combination of these three players gives Coach Santos plenty of options to attack and score goals to keep their opponents off-balance. In addition to the forwards and midfielder, Santos can also rely upon the experience of players such as Giorgos Samara and Theofanis Gekas who will add stability and determination to the rest of the team.

Although built around attacking, their work at getting into the World Cup this year was really about the defense which only gave up four goals in ten matches. For the Greeks to continue to succeed, this emphasis on defense while taking advantage of scoring opportunities once again makes them a dark horse in the current World Cup tournament.

Group C

For the 2014 World Cup, the Greek are in the second slot of Group C which also consists of Colombia, the Ivory Coast and Japan, giving Greece an excellent chance to advance despite some good competition.

Overall, the chances of the Greeks to win the World Cup again may not be nearly as great as it was in 2004, but they are currently not considered one of the favorites although they have been playing well in the qualifying rounds. What can be stated is that if they do win, it will not be quite the same surprise and shock that the world experienced in 2004, but it will be regarded as the establishment of a real power in football for the rest of this decade. Thanks in large part to their head coach and determined, talented team.

Switzerland’s FIFA World Cup Team

world-cup-betting-oddsSwitzerland’s FIFA World Cup Team is the Swiss national football team. The Swiss Football Association controls the team. It has a long history of participating in the World Cup since 1934 when it participated for the first time and reached the quarter finals. The best performances of the Switzerland FIFA World Cup team in the World Cup have been in 1934, 1938 and 1954 when it reached the quarterfinals.

The Switzerland FIFA World Cup team has all red colors and the change is all white but the shorts and socks are interchangeable if there is a minor clash in colors. The Swiss have not earned any major trophy so far, the best they have done is reaching the quarter finals in the World cup 3 times and winning the Silver medal in the 1924 Olympics.

Switzerland-world-cup-oddsTheir coach Ottmar Hitzfeld today leads Switzerland’s FIFA World Cup team, he has been leading the FIFA team since 2008 and the 2014 World Cup would be his second major tournament as leader. This though may be the last time he leads the team since he has decided not to renew his contract. Switzerland’s FIFA World Cup team has many immigrants from the Balkans in its line up. Most of the players are playing for top clubs and have experience as competitors at the highest level. Many of their players are young and skillful and despite the reputation of the Swiss to be quite and reserved, these players will not shy away from a confrontation. With these players in the line up for the 2014 World Cup, Switzerland believes that it has a very fair chance of making the last 16 in the tournament.

swiss-girl-world-cupThe 2014 Switzerland FIFA World Cup team with its young players and its coach made an unheralded rise in the FIFA rankings and is now a seeded team for the 2014 World Cup. With its lineup of mostly immigrants who are serving their adopted country on an international stage have the experience of playing in tournaments and have once again brought the level of the Swiss team to international recognition.

Their midfield consists of captain Gokhan Inler, Valon Behrami and Blerim Dzemaili with attacking midfielders Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka. All of these players are well known for their prowess in the European football leagues and make up the backbone of the Swiss FIFA World Cup team.

Switzerland was ranked as 7th in the FIFA rankings since it was unbeaten in its group with 7 wins and 3 draws. It will make for an interesting World Cup to watch how Swiss FIFA World Cup team fares in the the World Cup. With its strong line up of stars and with its coach Ottmar Hitzfeld there is quite a good chance that we may see this team rise up once again and prove that they can be the best in the World.

The rise of the Die Mannschaft, Germany’s national soccer team

Germany-World-Cup-OddsGermany’s national FIFA team came from humble beginnings. The team was originally created in 1908, with the German football association playing its first game in Basel, Switzerland. The game was played on April 5, 1908 and the German team lost 5 to 3. The team continued to play in the years leading up until world war one, through the war, and afterwards. In its early years, the DFB had no official manager in charge of players and simply drafted new players by voting. The first official manager came in 1926 when Otto Nerz, a school teacher from the city of Mannheim took over the role. The German team was actually so poor during the first few decades of its existence that it was unable to pay for the players plane flights to Uruguay in 1930. During the 1930s, the politics of Germany came to be dominated by the Nazis and soon footballers from Austria were forcibly made to join the German team as a show of political solidarity to the Nazi Party.

German-World-Cup-BettingWith the advent of world war two, many players were forced to leave football in order to join the military and fight against the allies. Efforts were made by the manager, Sepp Herberger, in order to save the players from the worst parts of the war and keep them away from dangerous jobs. After the Second World War ended, Germany was banned from playing in the world cup until 1950 due to the political fragmentation of Germany into different regions such as West Germany, East Germany, and the Saarland. It was a logistical nightmare to try and organize a national team out of each of the different regions and few were up for the task. Eventually, a team was created after the Soviet Union absorbed East Germany, and West Germany became a distinct entity. FIFA came to only recognize the West German team as being the national German team and it was not until the reunification of 1990 that East German players were allowed into the West German team.

WORLD-CUP-OCTOPUS-PAUL-GERMANYIn the decades after world war two, the German national team grew in popularity and prowess, scoring big wins against the Soviet Union and other soccer giants such as Uruguay. However, the golden decade for the German national team was the 1970s. During the 1970s, Franz Breckenbauer became the coach of the national team and set them up for a cascade of victories. In 1972, the DFB beat the Soviet Union three to zero in the final game, embarrassing the world super power. In 1974, the team won their second world cup against the Netherlands at two to one in Munich.

The German national football team is a force to be reckoned with in the competitive world of professional athletics. It has a colorful and unique history, and the DFB has struck fear into the hearts of many lesser soccer teams around the world. The team now dominates both men and women’s football tournaments and was recently ranked as the “most entertaining team” in the 2010 World cup.

Germany’s World Cup Odds

Germany is the favorite to win this tournament’s “Group of Death”. They’re in Group G against Portugal, the USA and Ghana, who are all good teams. If by far the toughest group in the World Cup. It won’t be easy for Germany to win, but they should be able to do it.

Team Odds
Germany -180
Portugal +275
USA +1000
Ghana +1200

FIFA World Cup 2014 – What are Belgium’s Odds?

When the draw for the groups in the World Cup 2014 in Brazil was finished a lot of people commented that group H, where Belgium will play, is the most unattractive of all the groups. There are two European teams (Russia and Belgium), one Asian (South Korea) and one African (Algeria) and a lot of experts predict that European teams won’t have any trouble to progress into the next stage. In fact a lot of people expect that Belgium will finish number one in this group and some of them even expect Belgium to be one of those regular positive surprises that regularly happen on tournaments like this.

belgium-world-cup-oddsParticipating in a FIFA World Cup tournament is not something new for the Belgian side. They have been part of eleven World Cup final tournaments so far and their most successful period was between 1982 and 1998 because in this period they didn’t miss one tournament. Belgium had some troubles with their team starting from 2002 and this is their first big tournament after 12 years. A lot of experts say that Belgium National Team can repeat their biggest success from 1986 when they’ve finished fourth.

These predictions are based on few things. First of all their road to getting qualified World Cup was impressive. They have ended first in their qualification group ahead of respective national teams like Croatia, Serbia and Scotland with impressive eight wins, two draws and no loss. They have proven to be calm when it was most needed.

2014-world-cup-betting-oddsAnother thing that makes this team great is of course the players. Belgium national team has some world class players playing in the elite European leagues. Of course their main star is Chelsea’s player Eden Hazard and a lot of things will depend on his performance. However Belgium is not a one-man team and players like Christian Benteke (Aston Villa), Kevin Mirallas(Everton), Marouane Fellaini(Manchester United), Romelu Lukaku(Everton), Vincent Kompany(Manchester City) and few others guarantee good results and good games. As you can see most of the Belgian representatives play in the English Premier League and we can expect a similar style of playing on this World Cup. They play attacking football with usual 4-2-3-1 formation. All the players are physically fit and it seems that this team doesn’t have some major troubles on any position. But besides the physical readiness we must count on the mental preparedness too. Sometimes experience in tournaments like these can mean a lot. As we have mentioned before Belgium didn’t play on the last two World Cup tournaments.

The key role in the mental preparedness is left for the coach. Marc Wilmots has proven to be the perfect choice for this golden generation of Belgian players. He took the position of a national coach in 2012 and managed to create a powerful team. Although there are many stars in this team he manages to keep the team spirit and obviously he is a great motivator.

Keeping all these parameters in mind it is no wonder why most of the football enthusiasts expect Belgium to pass the group stage without any problems. In fact Belgium has a team that can reach the final but World Cup tournaments bring a lot of surprises so we will have to wait and see!

Spain’s FIFA World Cup Team – Tradition and Power on the Road to Brazil

spain-girl-world-cupFirst recognized as a viable competitor in 1920, Spain’s national football team has a proud and strong history in international play. Starting with their very first Olympic matchup in Belgium that same year, against the number two seeded team, Denmark, Spain’s fledgling national team took the win with a single goal from Spanish football legend Patricio Arabolaza. The wins would keep coming. In 1933, the team recorded their largest scoring gap by taking on Bulgaria and ending with an unprecedented 13-0 victory. Though they have made 14 appearances out of a possible 19 in the World Cup, their first being in 1934, it would not be until 2010 that the team would bring home the victory for their countrymen. This more than anything has the world charged to see how the defending champs hold up.

The Road to Brazil

bet-the-world-cupPlaced in group one at the 2014 FIFA World Cup prelim draws, Spain’s team was faced with a difficult road populated with some heavy hitters for their cup matches. Starting in 2012 following the Euro Championships, the Spanish team faced off against Finland, France, Belarus, and the toughest nut to crack to date, Georgia. In fact, it wasn’t until late in the match when the red fury’s Roberto Soldado scored a goal after the entire opposing team was in 11-man defense mode for the whole match. Georgia would nearly respond with a 90 minute counter kick, but the ball failed to make the net, instead ricocheting from the post in a dramatic breath-taker. Spain took the win, and maintained their international standing as the number two team in the world.

Masters of Tiki-Taka

world-cup-soccer-bettingSpain’s team play, quite unlike other team in the world, has maintained a traditional and arguably philosophical style of play over the decades called Tiki-Taka. No matter the circumstances, the team acts as one unit, performing short, meticulously controlled passes to ‘walk’ the ball toward the back of the opponent’s net. “We have the same idea as each other,” said Xabi Alonso in 2010. “Keep the ball, create movement around and off the ball, get in the spaces to cause danger.” Players are reminded throughout the matches that they are there as one unit, and the game itself is paramount, above even individual superstar players. The team takes to the field as one unit, and banks on this strategy to win together. This style of play helped bring home to Spain the World Cup Championship in 2010, as well as the Euro2012 Championship.  As such, they will be the defending champions in Brazil, and without a doubt, the premier world cup football team to beat.
