World cup tournaments are definitely one of the sought after events in the world. These events are showcasing the best of the best players in various countries. It is indeed an honor and gratitude to win in such prestigious events for the reason that if you win a title then you are becoming famous all throughout the world and be admired by everyone.
Every player has the main goal of reaching the top of a world cup tournament, a dream came true for some and one of these highly acclaimed world class events is none other than the FIFA World Cup. FIFA World cup is an international football association that upholds competitions for senior men that are parts of national teams and are members of the Federation Internationale de Football Association or the FIFA.
In this event a FIFA World Cup Trophy would be the prize. It is recognized as the most prestigious and sought-after prize for sport and it is claimed to be a unique distinction for the sport of football in the world.
The current trophy is said to be the second generation or the replica of the prize. The first trophy was named after Jules Rimet, the former president of FIFA. The Julius Rimet Cup was displayed in England but it was stolen in the 1966. The stolen trophy was then found hidden in a garden by the help of a dog named Pickles and with the Scotland’s English detectives.
During that time, the regulations of the FIFA states that when a nation wins the world cup for three times, they would have the chance to own the trophy permanently and the first nation who had did this is the country of Brazil. But then same with what happened to England, in the year 1983, the trophy was stolen again in Rio de Janeiro and didn’t have the chance to see it again by people.
In the year 1970, a new trophy was commissioned by FIFA for the tenth FIFA World Cup that will be placing in the year 1974. Since the original trophy was stolen and was believed to be melted by the thieves who took it, seven countries submitted fifty- three designs, expertly made to FIFA. The lucky chosen one was the work of Silvio Gazzaniga, an Italian artist.
The design was described by Gazzaniga as, “The lines spring out from the base, rising in spirals, stretching out to receive the world. From the remarkable dynamic tensions of the compact body of the sculpture rise the figures of two athletes at the stirring moment of victory.”
The new regulation of the FIFA is that the original trophy will no longer be owned of the winning team but instead a replica of the trophy will be the prize. This is referred as the FIFA World Cup Winner’s Trophies, made of 18 carat gold that has a malachite base. The winner of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Spain, is the trophy’s current holder.
Nothing would replace the out bursting feel felt by the national teams of football players once they win a game especially when the competition is highly renowned and a truly world class just like the FIFA World Cup.
